Mike has extensive experience in large-scale operations within the retail sector, both as a consultant and as a direct employee.

His achievements and experience to date include 15 years as Real Estate Manager for TPF Restaurants, where he took the Burger King brand from 12 restaurants in the mid 90s, to over 75 restaurants operating nationwide.

This included developing long-term, strategic site selection plans, managing lease negotiations and ongoing administration of leases, procurement of necessary local body consents, working closely with relevant contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective site development, and profit and loss reporting to substantiate acquisitions. More specifically;

Position:

Real Estate Manager/Business Development (Burger King)

Responsibilities:

National responsibility for the total sphere of property work for an open ended expansion plan of restaurant growth. Grew the company from 12 to 75 operating restaurants.

I negotiated the exclusive distribution and retailing rights for illy coffee in NZ and the Islands and had a responsibility for aspects of the Hell Pizza business which was also owned by the company.

My role requires the following disciplines:

Compilation of annual/ 5 and 10 yearly strategic property acquisition plans.
Lease negotiations with property owners and developers.
Full assessment and modification as required of leasing documentation.
Issuing of lease documentation.
Reporting to Directors on restaurant sites procurement and producing recommendations.
Compilation of profit and loss reports to substantiate site acquisition.
Ongoing administration of leases/rent reviews/renewals.
Procurement of building and resource consents.

Mike has also owned successful restaurants and was the master franchisee for Mr Whippy ice cream in New Zealand.

Jack has vast experience in large-scale development, operations and management in the restaurants, hotel and tourism and retail industries.

Worked for Sheraton international in New Zealand as Food & Beverage Executive as well as Rooms Division Executive.

Jack worked for 12 years TPF Restaurants (Burger King) responsible for strategic operational development, operations management, for coordinating franchisee setup and support. This included contribution to restaurant design and layout, evaluating and implementing new equipment, operational IT assessment and implementation, developing products and rollouts, procedures and training programme, also developed policies and procedures relating to the introduction and assessment of franchises into the New Zealand market.

Retail Focus was established in 2009 to provide consultancy services to the retail and property industries, with a special interest in helping overseas companies set up infrastructure, and gain entry into the New Zealand market.

Our team at Retail Focus has the combined knowledge and experience to manage the whole process, from procuring and developing appropriate restaurant sites around the country, to designing and managing restaurant fitouts, and developing programmes for franchisee selection and coordination.

The Directors of Retail Focus worked with Burger King for a number of years establishing 75 restaurants nationwide. Subsequently were also involved in the introduction of Carl’s Jr into the New Zealand market and established 7 successful “drive thru” restaurants (including a world record opening week sales) before our client sold his business to another Carl’s Jr franchisee. The team also introduced the Miami Grill brand to New Zealand opening its first store in December 2014

In 2016 we established FOOD CONCEPTS Ltd to allow us to more appropriately focus our business in the retailing of food, be it QSR-fast casual-café’s-restaurants-food franchises, representing both local and overseas retailers.
